produced in 2004, this ep marks an essential shift in the production of stefan goldmann to his modus operandi as a dedicated innovator. he had adapted the barricade guise to induce some serious deviations into the techno realm. yet, heads werent ready and he simply continued under his real name with his major breakthrough works: perlons blood ep and the legendary sleepy hollow tune. hidden from the public, aleko and frantic had built a prototypic aesthetic of rough, concrete-space sounds - reduced dark, metallic percussion grooves, spring reverbs and degraded post-acidic synths. you name it where you heard this sound years later. its revealing how far ahead these tunes were at the time of their creation. they sound more now than many current tracks. aleko is the 4/4 techno version of this soundset, locked-in clonk patterns built around a nitrous bassline. frantic could be a future development to todays dubstep, if it wasnt its actual historic predecessor. add the schizophrenic bass excursion heliotrope and you have a package of painstaking relevance. back then the a&rs simply didnt get it - thats why it took 6 years and the formation of victoriaville to finally bring these gems to light

olm029 - layo & bushwacka! - double a side summer gone/what do you say now layo and bushwacka! spent most of last year recording, the first offering from this period came at the end of last year with their endangered ep on plus 8. we now present their first release on their own label in eleven months. summer gone is a groove that starts on an up that slowly breaks down and brings in sounds, voices, rhythm and then kicks back with a really strong vocal and groove. what do you say now hits from the moment it begins with a stripped down sound and dub vocal and then slams with strong percussion and then back to the groove. totally tested out by layo & bushwacka! but supported big by the only two other djs with copies, richie hawtin and laurent garnier.

modular, das derzeit spannendste label australiens (tame impala, wolfmother, van she), veröffentlicht das dritte cut copy album, auf dem die band durch die verwendung von mehr elektronik und exotischen instrumenten (bongos, congas etc) eine aurale utopie aus organischer psychedelia und repetitiver robotik erschafft. so entstanden rhythmische sektionen im motorischen schnelllauf ( alisa ), kreuzblüten aus chicago house & ebm ( turn from stone and blink ) und epische 15-minütige disco-mantras ( sun god ). abgemischt wurde zonoscope von ben allen in atlanta, der mit seiner urbanen musikvergangenheit bereits alben von animal collective, deerhunter und gnarls barkley zu glanz verhalf.

extremely welcome reissue of this super dope and super rare slamming early 80s boogie classic. coming out of chicago in 1983 on the tiny label full scope, this was the only release for both the label and the band but what a release!! heavily synth-laden, echoing cowbells, tight crisp percussion, superb bass - this is a fantastic example of 80s funk at its absolute best and deserves all the accolades it gets. get a copy while you can.
